IL Dick Pond Spike Night

Dick Pond is hosting a Cross Country Kickoff on August 18th in St. Charles

St. Charles IL

Dick Pond Athletics and the Nike Corporation will present: The 2009 Cross Country Kick Off at the historic Arcada Theater in downtown St. Charles.  The highlight of the evening will be a showing of the full length feature film, The Long Green Line which is a story of the 1995 York High School Cross Country team's rise through adversity to the school's 25th IHSA State Cross Country Championship.

In addition to the showing of the film, legendary coach Joe Newton of York High School, will address the audience and answer questions.  If you have not seen the theater, or seen the film, or heard Mr. Newton speak, I can assure you that any one of these experiences individually would be worth the trip.  Seeing as how all three of these will be presented, free of charge, on that one night, is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Therefore, please reserve the date of: August 18, 2009 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm so that you can help us make this event a huge success.  We need to demonstrate to all that this far western suburban area is strong enough in it's distance running history to support such an endeavor.

For those of you who are coaches, I need to know from you in the next 5 days, where and when you hold your summer camps so that I can come to hand flyers to your athletes.  I also need to know the date of your last camp meeting.  This is an event that transcends team rivalry. The film is, in my opinion, the best movie on our sport ever made.  Each and every team that participates will be better for having had this experience.
